The heat is on

Ryan Gray was the star of the show at Northern heat taking home a show-stopping three medals
Major International and the Craft Guild of Chefs work in partnership to organise the annual Major Series of Display Classes.  The national competitions, open to junior and senior chefs of varying skill levels, take place throughout the year at venues around the country and culminate in the live final which is to be held at Hotelympia 2016.

This year has seen all three heats of the 13th Major Series take place. The first was held at South Devon College in February, followed by the New College Durham in April and the final heat, held at Westminster College, London has just taken place. Each event has been judged by Major’s very own Brian Eastment and the Craft Guild of Chefs judges Christopher Baston and Wayne Harris.

“The aim of the Major Series is not only to promote culinary excellence but also to nurture talent. Today this is seen as one of the UK’s premier competitions and it’s a great way to encourage creativity and showcase your skills” comments Brian Eastment Executive Development Chef of Major International.

Ryan Gray, from Durham College was the star of the show at Northern heat taking home three medals; Gold in the Street Food competition and Silver in both the Hot Live Chicken and the Open Dessert categories.

“I was really pleased with my results because I think the standard of the food produced by all chefs was really good, so it’s a huge credit. I used a selection of Major products in my dishes including Stock Bases, Mari Bases and Fruit Bases. The flavours that you get from each one of these are amazing and are so easy to use.”

Ryan won the Street Food category with his dish of chicken and chorizo paella accompanied with mangos and bananas using Major Mediterranean Mari Base.  The judges were particularly impressed with the flavours, presentation and overall culinary expertise of Ryan on the day.

The final of all three events is to be held later in the year at Hotelympia in March 2016.   Watch this space to find out who the big winner of the 13th Major Series will be.
