Matt Owens Joins Major International

We’re delighted to announce that Matt Owens is joining the Major Team, but who is he and what is he most looking forward to about working with us?
Matt Owens is a name well known within the foodservice industry, especially amongst pastry chefs, and we’re incredibly excited to announce that he is joining the Major Team as Development Chef and Business Development Manager for London. Alongside Fergus Martin, our Executive Development Chef and our expert team of Sales Representatives, Matt will be looking for new innovative ways to use the Major products whilst also travelling around London and the surrounding areas demonstrating just what the Major products can do.

Matt’s career has been a prolific one and in addition to being National Secretary for the Craft Guild of Chefs, he has a long list of awards to his name and has held a number of high profile positions including Executive Pastry Chef at the Four Seasons Hotel on Park Lane. We sat down with him to ask a few more questions about some of his biggest achievements and to find out what he’s most looking forward to about working at Major.

What is the craziest thing you’ve done since being a chef?

“I think I’d have to say the time I was asked to cook dessert for President Obamas’ first visit to the G20 London Summit in 2009. I kind of had this moment in the lead up to it, where I suddenly realised that I was preparing to cook for 32 world leaders and all of their delegates and it was pretty mind blowing.”

What is the highest accolade you’ve been awarded during your career?

“In 2006 I was ranked second in the world for individual pastry at the Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg. I think that would have to be it alongside being awarded Pastry Chef of the Year in 2001.”

What is your favourite dish to cook?

“I don’t know if I can pinpoint an exact dish but I really enjoy cooking Indian food. It’s so diverse and there are so many different variations and flavour profiles that come under the ‘Indian cuisine’ umbrella that there’s a lot of space for creativity and this is what I enjoy about it.”

What are you most looking forward to about working at Major?

“There are a lot of things I’m looking forward to really, especially the chance to develop new products and truly discover their potential. It’s really exciting to work with products that I have valued in the industry for many years.
